Thanks to the world of digital shopping, there are hundreds of different brands available out there that you can purchase. Believe it or not, the process of buying a desktop, laptop, a printer, or even just ink cartridges can be completely overwhelming at times. All too often, these companies selling such technological products will express information about their products in highly technical terms, which can make it very difficult to understand unless you’re already in the business of technology. In this article, there are two long-standing brands that we’ll talk about. This should help you decide which of these two brands are better for you; Epson or Brother.
Epson
Epson’s main headquarters are in Japan. This company began by manufacturing parts of watches in 1942. Since then, they have gone into manufacturing of a wide variety of technologies, one of which is printers. In 1978 they created and released a dot matrix printer that became extremely popular, and have, since then, been created some of the most popular printers that have sold on the market. When you purchase an Epson printer you get a brand named company that has been creating and selling printers for thirty years. They are known for high quality printers and ink cartridges that produce excellent image quality and that last for extended periods of time. They carry a variety of printers, including the wildly popular wireless ones, and their printers are often seen in business settings due to the sturdiness of the units.
Brother
Much like Epson, Brother Industries is also based in Japan. Their company got their start manufacturing and selling sewing machines in 1908. Since then they have become known in the technological world for creating a variety of different types of electronics, including typewriters, fax machines, printers, and ink cartridges. While Brother printers do tend to be less expensive, they aren’t what you would call a “cheap” printer at all. Brother printers sometimes do have a less sturdy casing, but their insides work just as well as their more expensive counterparts. You generally don’t see their printers in the business world since they tend to be geared for personal use, or at best, home office use. But, these printers are definitely great for home use.
Which to Choose?
When it comes to choosing between Brother and Epson, it is not that difficult of a decision. For those looking for a printer for their home office, or especially for those who want one for a business, Epson is a strong choice. They have higher quality printers that can withstand the extra stress of printing in larger quantities or frequencies on a regular basis. Buying high quality Epson ink cartridges will help you get the most out of your Epson printer . For home use at a great price, though, Brother printers beat Epson printers. They tend to have inexpensive ink cartridges, and the printers themselves are often inexpensive as well. Both Brother and Epson are good choices if you’re looking for a home-use printer. If you want a wireless printer, Epson currently has the upper hand, but Brother could bery well make a comeback in that department since they have the accumulated knowledge that comes from working with a variety of different technologies.

Are you in the market for printer ink, but aren’t sure what to buy? With all the third party manufacturers and vendors out there, it can be confusing trying to figure out exactly what you need. There are a lot of options to choose from, and knowing the basic differences between cartridges will help you make the right decision.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Ink Cartridges
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or name brand ink cartridges are made by the printer manufacturers themselves. Since they are sold by the manufacturer, these cartridges are normally the most expensive type. Oftentimes when you purchase a printer, you may pay more for replacement cartridges then the printer itself.
Compatible Ink Cartridges
Compatible ink cartridges are created like the name brand cartridges but are made by third party manufacturers. These cartridges are sold at a discount but are not cheap inks. They are created to match the OEM specifications. Compatible cartridges can offer comparable print quality as the name brands and have the same standards. These cartridges are completely reliable, but look suppliers that guarantee their products. The process and quality varies with each third-party manufacturer.
Remanufactured Ink Cartridges
Remanufactured cartridges are recycled name brand cartridges. The cartridges have already been used once and sent to a remanufacturing company. There the cartridges are cleaned, repaired with new parts, refilled professionally, and tested for quality. Like compatibles, you should look for a vendor that guarantees their products because the process and quality can vary.
Refill Kits
Refill Kits are do-it-yourself kits that include everything needed to refill an inkjet or toner cartridge. Each kit is created for specific printer models with ink formulated to match OEM quality.
The printer ink market is massive, and it can be very confusing to new buyers who are looking for a deal. But knowing the facts can help you make an informed decision.

Whether the story about the office supplies company handing out a free printer with every new ink cartridge bought is true or not, the underlying message strikes a chord with many people. Most people don’t relish the idea of buying in cartridges, but pre-planning will save replacement costs. Buying generic or compatible alternatives, remanufactured ink cartridges and re-filled cartridges can cut the costs of printer peripherals significantly.By sourcing these ink cartridges from a reliable supplier, quality can be assured. Buying in bigger quantities is another option.Suppliers often offer bulk purchases at a discount, and bulk buying is also a valuable time-saver.Plus the added convenience of replacement printer cartridges at the ready ! And by making the right choice of ink cartridge supplier, you’ll be making the world of difference to the environment ! Earthink is a 100 per cent Australian owned and operated web-based supplier of a huge range of printer peripherals and ink cartridges that delivers across Australia, and importantly, is environmentally conscious and contributes part proceeds of all sales towards the reduction of carbon emissions. Literally.Earthink donates part proceeds of sales of all of its over 2 000 products to a not-for-profit organisation, Carbon Neutral, which works to offset carbon emissions by planting native trees in Australia. Carbon emissions are the root cause of global warming or climate change, and each of us can do something to reduce our carbon footprint.A good starting point is to re-look at our buying habits, and in particular, with regard to ink cartridges. And talking of change, many people are reluctant to change their opinions on generic ink cartridges. In the majority of cases, generic or compatible cartridges are just as good as those from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) – they just don’t carry the brand name. Reprocessed printer cartridges also have a cost advantage over original branded units. These are printer cartridges that have been re-manufactured using original parts. The unit is physically dismantled, cleaned, checked for any faulty parts, put back together and refilled. These can be less than half the price of branded originals. When buying generic ink cartridges, it is worthwhile having the cartridge in hand when ordering to ensure compatibility with the make and model of the hardware. Doesn’t it always happen that your printer cartridge dries up in the middle of a print job or a homework project, and that’s usually after retailers have closed for the evening. Now that’s the opportunity to let your fingers do the walking, order in bulk through an internet cartridge supplier, but how do you check if they are trustworthy? Online suppliers are generally able to operate with lower overheads than traditional ‘brick and mortar’ suppliers, so their products are often discounted. But don’t forget to check the fundamentals, says Steve Nash. from Earthink. Make sure that the printer cartridge supplier offers comprehensive product assurance and exchange options should the product not meet performance expectations.Make sure the delivery times are suitable for your needs and check customer testimonials.Telephone the company before making any decision so that they can answer any queries personally. It is also important to ensure that the online ink cartridge supplier has the appropriate security features to protect confidential information. Printer cartridges can break the bank. But making a few changes to your buying habits can save you a small fortune. Buy ink cartridges in bulk from a reputable online supplier, consider cheaper generic or compatible alternatives and save the environment at the same time.
